ALABI AZEEZ

"My art is inspired by the rich cultural environment of the Yoruba kings' palaces I grew up around. It reflects traditional symbols and motifs while incorporating contemporary elements that allow for visual communication on issues such as character and tribal identity. Each piece is a dialogue in color and form, meant to engage and provoke thought about our cultural roots and modern lives."

"Layers Of Good Fortune 2" Textured Abstract Series by Toyin Omolowo - Bibianna African Art Collective

Toyin Omolowo

He combines geometric and linear elements in different materials

The work of Toyin Omolowo B.64 of Nigeria depicts a ubiquity of textiles in African life providing a subtext for much contemporary artwork being produced by Africans on the continent and beyond it. Omolowo has worked with various painting media as well as graphics and metal sculpture since completing studies at the Yaba College of Technology in 1990. Most recently, Omolowo's interest has centered on exploring the abstract design potential in symbolic motifs from significant civilizations of the past. He combines geometric and linear elements in different materials, including cardboard, acrylic paint, resin, twine, and wax, to celebrate the Yoruba culture. His designs expresses elements of color, balance, rhythm, and harmony.

Kwesi Koo Nyarkoh

From the stunning series "Much More Than Beautification."

Ghanian artist Kwesi Koo Nyarkoh explores identity through body paint within african tribes. His stunning portraits are detailed, piercing and emotive. A combination of techniques, colour composition and subject matter arrests you the minute you set eyes on one of his pieces. The scale of his work drives home the connection you feel in the presence of the eyes that penetrate and takes the breath away. Arresting and demanding of attention, powerful is how i would describe the feeling i had when i first laid eyes on his work.
